Brenda had just delivered her eldest daughter on December 21, 1982. In the recovery room, she became extremely cold despite seven warming blankets. After being returned to her room, her IV came out and blood was everywhere. Her blood pressure rose dangerously high, and she was rushed to emergency care. During treatment, she experienced an out-of-body experience, floating to the corner of the ceiling where she observed her lifeless body on the table with medical staff calling her name. She was drawn through the ceiling and saw a very bright tunnel. She moved toward the light feeling absolute peace and well-being. As she approached the tunnel, she was suddenly pulled back to her body when doctors injected medication. The medical staff later confirmed they had lost her during the procedure, with one doctor saying "We thought you were a goner." She spent four days in ICU recovering. The experience left her with a profound sense of being chosen to return and share her story, though she felt no fear about the transition between life and death.
