Belazreg experienced a gas/air embolism during general anesthesia on July 2, 2007. She reports clinical death with cessation of breathing and heart function. During the experience, she found herself floating in a universe of nothingness, wearing clothes and feeling overwhelmed with indescribable love. There was no sense of past or future in her mind, only an eternal present filled with profound wellbeing. She became aware of a being or presence behind her who turned her around without passing in front of her. Through this being's eyes, she began to see herself from an external perspective. The being communicated telepathically that she was "naive," which ended the experience. She has no memory of returning to her body. The experience left her profoundly transformed, taking a year and a half to understand that the being meant no harm and was showing her something important about herself. She reports that she was in this void state while medical staff worked on her body, feeling completely disconnected from physical sensations. The overwhelming emotion was love - a love so profound she struggles to find adequate words to describe it. This experience challenged her religious understanding as a Muslim, as an imam told her it was a jinn behind her, but she feels the experience transcends any single religious interpretation. She now believes that similar experiences happen to people regardless of their faith background. The experience has made her more spiritually mature and focused on moral consciousness rather than religious dogma.
