Annette experienced a near-death experience at approximately age 7-8 during a dental procedure in 1970. She was given gas anesthetic for the procedure, but something went wrong and she became unresponsive for an extended period. The dental staff had difficulty getting any response from her, suggesting she may have been given too much anesthetic, creating a potentially life-threatening situation.
During her unconscious state, Annette first found herself in a queue with various people - some she recognized and others she didn't. This initial phase remained somewhat vague in her memory. She then entered a rotating tunnel, though she herself was not spinning but simply walking forward through it. The tunnel walls continuously changed colors in a kaleidoscope pattern, displaying gentle blues and lemon hues. At the far end, she could see a pinpoint of white light that seemed to take forever to reach, then suddenly she was surrounded by brilliant white light that didn't hurt her eyes. In this white light realm, a man in plain, non-western robes appeared with a small child at his side. He called Annette's name and gestured for her to come to him, reaching out his hand. Despite his invitation, Annette would not go to him. She later explained this was because her mother had always taught her not to go with strangers. She initially believed this figure was Jesus. The experience ended when she felt stinging sensations on her face and heard a woman calling her name - the dental staff was slapping her face hard to wake her up. When Annette told her mother about seeing Jesus, her mother dismissed it as foolish. The experience was largely forgotten until 15 years later when Annette discovered her mother's birth certificate while looking for her own. She found a certificate for a baby born 10 years before her who had lived only 2 hours. Upon learning she had a deceased older sister, Annette suddenly connected this to her childhood NDE, wondering if the small child beside the robed figure had been her sister. This revelation gave new meaning to her experience and convinced her it was genuinely a near-death experience.
