On May 24, 1999, Rosa was admitted for surgery on an ascending appendicitis lodged between the kidneys and liver, difficult to see on scans. The operation scheduled for 45 minutes lasted three and a half hours. When anesthetized, she came out of her body and floated to the corner of the operating theatre ceiling. She could see doctors operating on her and noticed they were flustered, particularly the anesthetist. She saw the room as a glass box and could see her relatives outside.
Returning to her body's location, Rosa saw her maternal grandfather (who died three years before her birth) to her left and her godfather (who died when she was eight) to her right. They held her hands with beautiful blue light around them, and she felt warmth in their hands. A tunnel appeared above her head with many beings expressing happiness at seeing her. Her grandfather and godfather told her to be strong as it wasn't her time and she couldn't join them. Her senses were acute, she could hear better than ever, and felt indescribable peace. The next day she learned she had been clinically dead for some minutes. Three veridical observations were reported: seeing the surgical team flustered during her operation, seeing the operating room as a glass box, and seeing relatives waiting outside. She also reports subsequent premonitory dreams including seeing the Fukushima disaster five months before it occurred. She has developed clairvoyance, can see what's wrong with seriously ill people, and knows how long they have to live. Since the experience, Rosa has visions and connections with the Virgin, Jesus, and other beings. She states that "God has no face, my God is love and light." She emphasizes that life is short but we shouldn't fear death - we should pray, act rightly, and love everything that lives. She describes her gifts as both her gift and her cross. Biblical Assessment: Rosa's experience contains both strongly biblical elements and some that raise concerns from a conservative evangelical perspective. The out-of-body observation of surgery demonstrates consciousness apart from the body, supporting biblical dualism. The tunnel with beings expressing joy could represent angels rejoicing (Luke 15:10). The message that it wasn't her time aligns with God's sovereignty over life and death. The beautiful blue light and overwhelming peace reflect divine presence. Her grandfather and godfather serving as guides, while comforting, is more problematic as the Bible warns against communication with the dead (Deuteronomy 18:11). The post-NDE developments are particularly concerning from a biblical standpoint. While biblical prophets received visions and predictive dreams from God, Rosa's clairvoyance about people's illnesses and death resembles divination practices forbidden in scripture. Her statement that "God has no face" contradicts the personal nature of the biblical God, though her emphasis on God as love and light has biblical support. The ongoing visions with Mary and Jesus could be genuine spiritual experiences, but the broader pattern of psychic abilities raises questions. From a conservative evangelical view, while the NDE itself has many biblical elements, the subsequent development of mediumistic abilities moves into territory that scripture explicitly forbids, making the overall experience mixed in its biblical compatibility.
