From an out-of-body perspective, she observed paramedics working on her, hearing their voices but only seeing the female paramedic's face clearly. At the hospital, still out of body, she noticed her doctor's distinctive cool tennis shoes while other doctors wore standard hospital shoes - a detail that stood out vividly. She then entered a tunnel-like space where a shadowy figure with long hair told her it wasn't her time yet. She and her husband later speculated this might have been her deceased cousin Scotty who died of AIDS in the 1980s, with whom she had been very close. After being in a coma for three weeks, she recovered.
