Pamela suffered brutal domestic violence for 17 years before attempting suicide through strangulation by her abusive boyfriend. As he gripped her throat with both hands, she initially panicked trying to get air. Suddenly air didn't matter and she faded into a warm, bright, comforting light. The light was so bright it filled her vision but didn't hurt her eyes. She felt herself floating or rising in the light, experiencing complete love and happiness. Then, as if someone pressed rewind, she was sucked back down into her body. She awoke to her attacker slapping her and pouring water on her face. He said she was unconscious and not breathing for 3 minutes. Despite the traumatic circumstances, the experience left her unafraid of death, knowing that suffering stops when the white light comes. The experience gave her strength to finally leave her abuser.
