This collection documents three historical Native American NDEs. First, around 1582, a Secotan man died, was buried, and the grave moved the next day. When exhumed, he described his soul traveling a broad way lined with excellent fruit trees, reaching beautiful houses where he met his deceased father who told him to return and show others how to enjoy that place. Second, Handsome Lake (Seneca) collapsed in 1799 and was thought dead for four days. During the first experience, three angels with radiant faces and beautiful clothes called him outside where he fell from their beauty. They taught him truth and duties for the world. In his second seven-hour coma, he traveled the Milky Way with a sky-blue clothed guide, seeing stars as tracks of the human race, brilliant light as the path to afterlife, and many dead people including children and George Washington. His guide showed him heaven and hell, teaching the Creator's moral plan before sending him back. He became a religious leader traveling to teach what he learned. Third account mentions Tecumseh's brother having an NDE in early 1800s. These pre-modern accounts show consistent NDE elements across cultures before contemporary NDE literature existed.
