Lorette C experienced cardiac arrest for 18 minutes following a suicide attempt. She heard doctors state "Five minutes until cerebral death" and "It's already too late." Despite being unable to move her body, her consciousness remained active. She attempted to move a finger to signal she was alive but found herself completely inert. Everything became profoundly dark - not ordinary darkness but infinite darkness.
Suddenly, a pack of black dogs appeared, seemingly coming through the wall from the next room. They were short-legged, completely black, yet paradoxically visible in the black darkness. The dogs were baying and advancing toward her, though without sound. She could see them with an all-encompassing field of vision while lying down. She understood that her suicide attempt had brought her into their presence and that she would remain in darkness without seeing the white light. Despite their potentially frightening appearance, she felt completely at peace, though disappointed at not being in the light. Then her partner, who had died in 2008, appeared looking like glass - completely transparent yet with clearly visible features. He had regained his rounded cheeks that were hollow when ill, wearing old glasses rather than his usual ones. He smiled and tapped his cheek with his right index finger, asking for a kiss. When she told him telepathically she couldn't move, he asked her to put her head on his shoulder. Instantly, she found herself able to do so with great facility. The dogs completely vanished. They viewed a parade of photos showing forgotten moments from their time together on a boat. As each photo passed, she remembered those specific moments. Her partner placed his hands on her shoulders, smiled serenely, then gently pushed her away. They were floating, not on the ground. She remained in a deep coma for six days, during which doctors were uncertain if she would survive. Upon awakening, her pathological mourning for her partner had completely resolved.
