In November 2000, Lilith attempted suicide for the third time by taking every tablet in the house with whisky, following years of trauma from childhood sexual abuse by her father at age 9, which she had blocked until he attempted it again at age 15. After taking the pills, everything turned black, then she found herself walking barefoot on muddy, cold ground with stones hurting her feet. She couldn't see anything initially but knew she had to keep going forward. She heard sounds of water and murmurings while feeling tired and desperate. As tears cleared her vision, she saw it seemed to be night and found a bench in what looked like woods but chose to continue walking instead of resting. She reached a place where the path ended at a trickle of water in mud. Someone approached from the distance as everything gradually became lighter like dawn. It was her grandfather dressed in white. When he reached her it was sunny, and she could see people observing in the distance and a building like a church on a hill. Her grandfather smiled and said he hadn't come for her but to talk. He was charged with telling her it wasn't her time and she was needed back. He said her dad was sick, her self-destructive thoughts were of evil origin that mustn't overcome her, and she had her life ahead. He told her to be patient and forgiving, and that her grandmother would survive her operation. When Lilith begged him to take her, he refused, touched her cold hand to her cheek, and told her to go back as it was past time. As she tried to follow him, the trickle became wider water until she understood she could never reach him. When she turned back, after one step the water became a trickle again. The whispering became her mother's voice weeping. She woke the next day aching all over.
