On May 7, 1978, Kelly was involved in a head-on collision at 70mph that "should have been fatal" according to EMTs and police. The accident was preceded by three premonitions, including seeing an ambulance and thinking "Oh, good!" After the deafening crash, Kelly was spiritually catapulted through her neck into the embrace of Mary, Mother of God. She heard angelic music described as the most beautiful laughter of children or angels (cherubim), more beautiful than any earthly music - the "music of the spheres." She felt enfolded by angels like petals of a Rose, experiencing utter joy, peace, safety and freedom at the gateway to Heaven. Kelly heard the words "merry/Mary" and "whim," understanding that God's Will in heaven was His Whim. She observed souls with covered heads like monks and nuns moving between life and death. When "Mary" was said again, she understood it meant her sister Mary Elizabeth with Down's Syndrome who would need her as guardian. Kelly immediately returned to her body, laughing hysterically. An "earth-angel" with a ponytail appeared at her car door, instructing her to stop laughing before EMTs arrived. She was miraculously uninjured except for whiplash. The experience was followed by a week of mystical visions including seeing Jesus with the crown of thorns.
