At age four and a half, Diane experienced an NDE during a high fever that may have been life-threatening. She found herself hovering near the ceiling, slightly to the right of the ceiling light, observing her body on a baby's changing table with her mother and a doctor in his overcoat looking down at her. She felt no attachment to her body or mother, only slight pity for her mother. She then turned and left through the ceiling into a dark, clear night sky. She locked onto a star and immediately began flying incredibly fast through a dark void with a rushing wind sound, knowing others were around though not seeing them. As she approached the star/light, something made her slow down against a force field that wouldn't let her proceed. After receiving a clear mental message that she was supposed to turn around, she reluctantly returned, knowing exactly how to get back though not wanting to. She has no memory of events immediately before or after the experience. She reports brain lesions that could reflect serious childhood illness, though her mother doesn't recall any life-threatening event aside from a head injury around the same time. She has always had paranormal gifts and didn't share the experience until college in 1970.
