Karen R attempted suicide by taking a bottle of high blood pressure pills in 2000. Her mother found her and called an ambulance, but she passed out en route to the hospital with her blood pressure dangerously low. At the hospital, they gave her charcoal but couldn't remove all drugs from her system. She was under death watch from the start and died three times during the first night, returning each time without resuscitation. During her experiences, she felt a warm, calm feeling and found herself in warm light like the sun. She felt profound peace and sensed others watching her, though they never showed themselves. She felt she was receiving a gift from somewhere. She desperately wanted to stay in that peaceful place but felt a loving, pushing sensation sending her back - as if she wasn't supposed to be there yet and needed encouragement to return home. All three times she visited the same place but was only allowed brief stays. Since her experience, her empathic abilities strengthened significantly - she can sense others' emotions more intensely and see shadows she calls spirits or ghosts. Through meditation, she's tried returning to that place but instead has visited a garden of great beauty where she was told she already knows the answers to her questions. The experience gave her the sense of having a purpose to fulfill on Earth.
