At age 16, Julianna was with her boyfriend preparing to inject heroin. Knowing she was taking more than usual but focused only on getting higher, she injected and immediately felt the need to lie down. She became surrounded by bright white light and found herself standing at the edge of a canyon stretching endlessly left and right. Looking down revealed pitch blackness as far as she could see. The source of light appeared to be on the other side of the canyon - seeming close yet unreachable. She panicked, desperately wanting to become one with the light. Then she saw an enormous hand with light shining through the webbing of its fingers approaching her. A strong, gentle man's voice said "Not yet." She opened her eyes drifting in and out of consciousness as her friend performed CPR. She laughed when he said she'd been dead for 5 minutes and had turned blue. Julianna remains convinced it was Jesus who pushed her back and believes the uncrossable canyon represented hell. The experience led her to try developing a personal relationship with Jesus and strengthened her Christian faith.
