On Halloween 1971, Jill D had a severe motorcycle accident, hitting a guardrail with her forehead after sliding on an oil slick. She flew through the air, everything went black, and she heard a high-pitched bell-like white noise. She then observed Earth from space, watching it grow smaller as she was drawn away by an unseen force. She witnessed the entire cosmos in vivid 3D - stars, nebulae, galaxies, all alive and moving. As she accelerated, stars became streaks of light before darkness returned. She then approached a golden, boiling cloud and entered a hallway where she encountered a being she calls "Howard" at a desk who seemed surprised by her arrival. Looking past him, she saw a beautiful landscape with people in lotus positions receiving pulsing light. When she stepped into a pool of liquid light, her individual identity dissolved and she became one with all consciousness. Howard pulled her back and sent her away. She re-traversed space back to Earth and observed her body from above during resuscitation.
The key veridical observation was watching the resuscitation scene from above, seeing herself on the ground with the same clothes, initially not recognizing it was her own body until about 25 feet above. A doctor's wife who lived across the street was sitting on her back to prevent movement due to potential neck injury. Jill verified she had been screaming though she only heard it from outside her body. The woman confirmed these details. BIBLICAL ASSESSMENT: This NDE presents profoundly mixed theological elements. The cosmic journey, dissolution of self into universal consciousness, and Eastern religious imagery (lotus positions, collective consciousness) align more with New Age and Eastern mysticism than biblical Christianity. The being "Howard" (a joke on "hallowed be thy name") represents irreverent treatment of the divine. The experience of becoming "one with everything" and losing individual identity contradicts biblical teaching about personal resurrection and individual souls. Jill's post-NDE beliefs explicitly reject traditional theism, stating "I don't believe in God as most people think of him" and "I am God, as is my dog, my car, the air." This pantheistic monism directly contradicts biblical monotheism and the Creator-creation distinction. While the veridical out-of-body observations support consciousness surviving bodily death, the theological framework is thoroughly unbiblical, promoting concepts fundamentally opposed to Christian doctrine about God, humanity, and salvation. The experience led to apostasy from Christianity rather than deeper faith.
