Harry underwent cardiac testing on January 6, 2011, to determine the severity of an arrhythmia problem. During the procedure, the doctor induced an arrhythmia that led to cardiac arrest three different times. Harry's doctor confirmed he was completely sedated and unconscious during all induced arrhythmias, arrests, and defibrillations. During one arrest, Harry found himself face-to-face with his guru, Paramahansa Yogananda, who had died in 1952. The guru was laughing uproariously, surrounded by bolts of incredibly intense light that Harry felt more than saw. The vision lasted only seconds but was overpowering. Harry intuitively understood he had prematurely crossed into a plane waiting for him in the future through medical technology, which made his Master laugh like he was a naughty child peeking under the Christmas tree. That evening in recovery, Harry could think of nothing else. He understood that earthly life builds a bridge to the divine through actions, practices, and faith, determining where one crosses in the afterlife. The experience brought him to tears knowing his Master awaits him. Harry had been a Self-Realization Fellowship devotee since 1993. The experience validated years of daily meditation and practice. He became quieter, more aware of others' needs, less engaged in worldly clamor, and less worried, knowing "it is all going to turn out."

Biblical Analysis: This experience presents complex theological challenges. While cardiac arrest and consciousness during clinical death support mind-body dualism, the content is incompatible with biblical Christianity. Encountering a deceased Hindu guru rather than Christ contradicts Jesus's exclusive claims. Self-Realization Fellowship teaches Hindu-yoga philosophy including reincarnation and self-realization as paths to God, opposing biblical salvation through Christ alone. Harry's belief that practices and meditation build bridges to divine realms resembles works-based salvation. The intense light could represent spiritual deception, as Satan can appear as an angel of light. While Harry's increased compassion is positive, his deeper commitment to Hindu-based teachings moves him further from biblical truth. From an evangelical view, this represents spiritual deception leading away from Christ.
