On Easter Sunday 1988, Christopher was shot three times - once in the abdomen, once in the right leg hitting the femoral artery, and a graze to the left leg. He experienced major blood loss and died on the operating table at the hospital. His experience consisted of three distinct parts with significant veridical evidence.
First, Christopher floated above the operating table observing doctors and nurses working on his body. Though brief, this out-of-body experience was exceptionally vivid. Second, he found himself floating in a dark room with bright white clouds in the background and light emanating from behind them. His family members were present along with a team of doctors standing in a perfect circle around him. He believes this was where the decision was made or communicated that it wasn't his time to die. The third part provides remarkable veridical evidence. While in a coma for ten days, Christopher observed his sister from across the hospital room near the doorway. He watched her holding his hand, then turning toward the door to cry, trying to hide her emotions. Upon awakening, he immediately asked why she was crying. She initially denied it but was shocked when Christopher described seeing her from the doorway perspective. The hair stood up on her neck when she realized he had accurately observed her private moments of grief that she had deliberately hidden by turning away from his body. Christopher considers this proof of consciousness existing outside the body. Since the experience, he has studied out-of-body experiences and successfully induced them independently. Biblical Assessment: This NDE strongly supports consciousness existing independently of the physical body, aligning with biblical dualism. The veridical observation of his sister provides empirical evidence for the soul's reality. The encounter with family and medical figures in a realm of light corresponds with biblical afterlife concepts. While lacking explicit religious imagery, the experience supports rather than contradicts Christian beliefs about the soul's survival after death.
