Anna L experienced a shock reaction from wrongly administered antipsychotic drugs in March 2011. She lost sensory connection with her surroundings and felt her body shrinking, losing each extremity one by one - fingers, hands, feet, arms, legs - until her body was reduced to nothing and only her consciousness remained. For the first time in her life, she thought of her body as beautiful and precious and felt upset at losing it.
Anna became aware that Light itself was calling to her. She found herself submerged in what seemed like a warm and welcoming sea, black and dark with no sound. She wondered why she saw no one else there. When she lifted her eyes, she saw a Light shining from beyond the sea, resembling nothing she had ever seen - huge and infinite, like a sun above the sea gleaming with every color. She could feel its warmth. The Light had its own life, consciousness, and movement, and communicated with her telepathically. She perceived the Light above the water as being part of herself. The water's surface acted as an elastic wall separating them, though they were the same thing. Filled with energy from gazing at the Light, her only thought was to reach it. She moved as fast as possible but collided with the elastic water wall. Using all her strength to break through, she thought "No stupid wall is going to stop me from reaching my Light!" She experienced a struggle with fearful emotions and attachment to the world, which the Light informed her were her own human feelings. She ignored these and pressed against the wall until finally breaking through and merging with the formless Light. In the communication that followed, Anna felt she and the Light were good friends who had known each other always and been through many things together. The Light taught her to avoid harming others through fleeting visions of minor but problematic conflicts. It asked about her feelings - was she afraid, OK, what did she wish for? She decided she was happy to return to Earth to make good the hurt she had caused. Upon deciding this, she felt called back with peaceful resignation. Biblical Assessment: This experience contains both biblical and problematic elements. The Light as a conscious, communicating being aligns with biblical descriptions of divine encounters, and the teaching to avoid harming others reflects biblical morality. The barrier between Anna and the Light could represent the veil between physical and spiritual realms. However, several elements raise theological concerns from a conservative evangelical perspective. The suggestion that Anna and the Light were "the same thing" contradicts the Creator-creature distinction fundamental to biblical theology. The implication of eternal pre-existence and having "been through many things together" with the Light suggests either reincarnation or pre-mortal existence, both unbiblical concepts. The experience's emphasis on making amends for harm caused, while morally positive, lacks any mention of sin, redemption through Christ, or salvation by grace. The absence of judgment, the concept of merging with the divine Light, and the suggestion of inherent divinity ("my Light" as part of herself) align more with pantheistic or New Age theology than biblical Christianity. While not explicitly contradicting scripture, the overall framework suggests a universalist perspective where all beings are fundamentally one with the divine, which opposes biblical teaching about humanity's fallen nature and need for redemption through Christ alone.
