Andrew J was in a severe automobile accident with his father while driving to dinner. He sustained life-threatening head injuries requiring emergency brain surgery. During the operation, he was clinically dead for three minutes. While unconscious for three days, Andrew had no awareness of his physical condition.

His father simply stated "I'm home," and when Andrew expressed concern about his younger brother Daniel missing him, his father asked him to take care of Daniel. The Lord revealed that Andrew's father had requested that Andrew not die, and this wish was granted. Andrew experienced accelerated thoughts and heightened awareness during the experience. His vision was remarkably clear despite normally wearing glasses, and his hearing was extraordinarily acute - he could hear all voices clearly regardless of distance. Time seemed to flow differently in Heaven. The Lord whispered to Andrew that he would not remember everything discussed but would recall what he needed when the time was right, and would remember everything upon his final return to Heaven. Andrew awoke in the hospital focused on recovery, initially considering the experience "probably real" but now views it as definitely real due to personal details that perfectly matched his knowledge.
