At age 18, Alvaro broke his hand jumping from his father's business. When his brother tried to help by squeezing the injured hand, Alvaro felt his body tingle and entered a dark tunnel. He felt light and bodiless, moving through darkness toward a bright light at the tunnel's end. Stopping at a portal, he felt wonderful - without worry, hunger, sleep, or pain. A presence accompanied him on his right side throughout the journey. To his left, he saw a stone wall with barred windows filled with people screaming "Help me!" though their mouths didn't move. When he asked the presence about them, it replied "Not yet." Continuing forward, he saw a huge, beautiful garden with people in white robes facing a stone wall emanating blinding light through closed doors. Again asking who they were, he received "Not yet." At one door, seeing light through cracks, he asked what was behind and got the same answer: "Not yet." Then began his rapid return to his body. His brother reported Alvaro had turned purple, stopped breathing, and required CPR for two minutes. X-rays confirmed the broken bone. The experience profoundly affected him - he approached the church though not fanatically, and developed déjà vu abilities that warn of significant events.
