Wayne was standing in his kitchen when his wife asked him a question. He tried to answer but couldn't speak, then experienced a Gran Mal seizure. He found himself looking at his collapsing body from inside a large, dark tube. Everything went dark, then a bright white light appeared behind him. He couldn't turn to face it, but the light began enveloping him from either side like fingers of light before everything went black.
He briefly opened his eyes to see emergency vehicle lights, then woke in the hospital ICU. After recovery, he experienced recurring episodes with metallic taste, weakness, and awareness of a tunnel with voices emanating from it. Sometimes he thought he recognized voices or words but couldn't remember what was said. The experience felt neither scary nor elating, just odd. He reports feeling incredible peace and joy, understanding everything about the universe during the experience.
