Wanda underwent gastric bypass surgery on April 6, 2004, which initially went well. Later that evening, she experienced severe diabetic ketoacidosis with hypoxia, feeling clammy and cold with high blood sugar. She knew she was dying and asked her sister to pray. She heard the doctor giving code medications and placing a femoral line.
Suddenly, everyone disappeared and the room filled with beautiful white light that engulfed everything. She told God she would go willingly if it was her time, but would return if He had more for her to do.
