In October 2010, Tommye experienced a heart attack and her heart stopped during an angiogram procedure as the physician was inserting a stent. Remarkably, she had apparent foreknowledge of the event, spending the week before preparing important information for her ex-husband "in case something happened." She also had a premonition months earlier that she would die of a heart attack rather than cancer.
During the procedure when her heart stopped, a very large woman with a white face and familiar short hair appeared in the room, crossing silently from left to right and standing in the background, apparently waiting to see if Tommye would need to be accompanied "across the veil." Tommye observed the physician's tension and excitement when her heart stopped, noting he seemed to relish the challenge of restarting it. After the experience, Tommye spent time in the CCU filled with euphoria and feeling love like never before. She felt she had brought light back with her that blessed everyone who entered her room. The experience heightened her sensitivity to others' suffering to an almost unbearable degree, making her unable to rest if she hurt someone's feelings even slightly. She now experiences deep depression after witnessing the pain of others, as the suffering in the world has become almost too much to bear. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The appearance of a being waiting to escort her "across the veil" aligns with biblical concepts of angels accompanying souls at death. The overwhelming love experienced and the lasting transformation toward greater compassion reflects the fruits of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22-23. The extreme sensitivity to suffering without the peace that should accompany spiritual transformation raises questions about whether the experience provided true biblical comfort.
