In 1979, Tim stayed home from work feeling like he had the flu. After visiting a doctor who ran tests and said he would call Monday, Tim went home to rest. Upon trying to stand up from bed, he felt blood drain from his head and passed out multiple times before reaching the end of his bed. After his final collapse, he experienced floating out of his body up near the ceiling.
During his out-of-body experience, he noticed his arms were outstretched and felt oxygen flowing through his body without needing to breathe - the air seemed to pass right through him. The temperature felt perfect, like those rare summer nights when the outside temperature matches body temperature exactly. He felt completely at peace and unworried. Looking down at his body on the floor, he thought or said "If you don't get up now, you aren't getting up." The scene then went dark and he found himself standing in the hallway pounding on his roommate's door. He next awoke with the Fire Department present, with a fireman saying into his radio "he has no pulse or blood pressure." He was in a special bag filled with air to push blood back to his head. Tim woke up about a week later packed in ice and receiving Last Rites from a priest. He eventually recovered from what was diagnosed as hepatitis, mononucleosis, and pancreatitis. The experience left him with a lasting understanding that leaving the body is what happens when you die, and he wasn't ready to continue that journey at that time. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The out-of-body experience aligns with Paul's description in 2 Corinthians 12:2-3 of being "caught up" whether in or out of the body.
