In 1977, Ted was swimming in a pool when he removed his life jacket. While trying to find the edge of the deep end, he slipped and went underwater. He attempted to grab a woman's swimsuit - she felt it but saw nothing. He then blacked out from drowning.
When he came to consciousness, he was floating above the pool with a spirit or ghost beside him. He could see everyone around his body and hear everything they were saying, memories that remained vivid thirty-two years later. He asked the being why no one was helping him, and the entity communicated without moving its mouth or speaking audibly, telling him: "The world is not as loving as you think." Ted was not given CPR or mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. He remembers becoming angry because people weren't helping him. Suddenly, he felt himself go back into his body and came to, coughing and crying. He told everyone to get away from him, rode his bike home, and told his mother what happened. She took him to the hospital where they found nothing wrong with him. The experience gave him lasting abilities - he can now feel spirits and sometimes sees places before he goes there. He has witnesses who confirmed he was at the bottom of the pool, validating the life-threatening nature of the event. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The out-of-body experience with consciousness surviving physical death, encountering a spiritual being, and the ability to observe earthly events from a spiritual perspective all align with biblical accounts. The anger about lack of help and the profound lasting impact reflect authentic spiritual encounters. The being's message about the world's lack of love could reflect fallen human nature as described in scripture. Unbiblical elements: The description of the being as a "spirit or ghost" without clear identification as angelic or divine is concerning. The development of psychic abilities (seeing places before visiting them, feeling spirits) aligns more with mediumship or clairvoyance, which scripture condemns. The message about the world not being loving, while possibly true about fallen humanity, lacks any redemptive or gospel-oriented content that would point toward God's love or salvation.
