At age eight, S.L. suffered a head injury that resulted in a three-day coma with no detectable brain activity. Doctors called in a priest from out of state to deliver last rites. During these three days, S.L. had an extensive out-of-body experience where he roamed the hospital halls and grounds, talking to many people in similar states, all while accompanied by a guardian being. He could see and hear everything happening in his hospital room at different times, observing various visitors. The guardian repeatedly told him he must return to his body, saying it wasn't his time and they had other things for him to do.
Throughout the experience, S.L. kept refusing to return, saying it was "too nice here" and feeling completely peaceful. On their final journey away from his room, the guardian firmly stated: "It is not your time. We have other things for you to do. We will come and get you at the right time." Back in the room with the guardian in the corner, despite S.L.'s continued protests about the peacefulness, the guardian calmly but firmly insisted it wasn't his time. The experience included passing through a blinding light that became clear upon reaching it, encounters with the guardian and other beings in similar states, and profound feelings of peace. Since then, S.L. has experienced visions of future events. At age fourteen, he had another NDE with the same beings repeating the message to go back. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The guardian being could represent an angel assigned to protect and guide. The message about having "other things to do" aligns with biblical concepts of divine purpose and calling. The boundary and being sent back reflects God's sovereignty over life and death. The peace and light correspond to divine presence. Multiple beings and the twice-repeated message strengthen the biblical theme of divine commission. Unbiblical elements: The vague nature of the "guardian" without clear identification as an angel or divine messenger is somewhat ambiguous. The development of precognitive visions could be seen as prophetic gifts or could venture into divination depending on their nature and use.
