His spirit left his body and he encountered Father Pio, a deceased priest from his native Italian town. He met an unnamed painter and flew over his birthplace in Italy, seeing its magnificence. He then flew over his small farm outside São Paulo, admiring a beloved almond tree he had planted years earlier that had never borne fruit. Four months after the heart attack, he was finally able to share the complete experience with family, having been overcome with emotion in earlier attempts. He told them to go gather almonds from the sterile tree. Though skeptical, the family visited the farm and discovered the previously barren almond tree was indeed full of almonds.
