In July 1975, eight-year-old Robert played the choking game with friends. After taking ten deep breaths and having a friend squeeze his chest while holding his breath, he lost consciousness. He found himself hovering over his friends who were trying to revive him, ascending rapidly while crying and scared. He entered a dim neon blue void where he encountered two translucent angel/spirit beings - one with a young girl's voice, another with a young boy's voice - who showed him he could fly and asked if he wanted to stay. While flying with them, a large translucent head of an old wise man approached, ten times their size. The spirits told the wise man "He likes it here, he wants to stay," but the old man replied sternly "He is not ready!" When the spirits persisted, he responded with thunder "He's not ready!" frightening the spirits. Robert instantly returned to his body in the driveway with friends trying to revive him. He also mentions that at age four, he was awakened by a brilliant light with the image of a man saying "you have been blessed my son," and the same image appeared to his own son at age four.
