On May 30, 1996, Robert was in a severe motorcycle accident that stopped his heart and left him with a bruised aorta, collapsed lung, broken back in two places (resulting in paraplegia), broken tibia, and damaged rotator cuff. He was dead on arrival at the hospital. During his NDE, he observed himself in the emergency room wearing a green hospital gown and mask, seeing doctors working on him. He ran out through double doors and found himself in his home hallway, went to his bedroom and saw his wife asleep. He grabbed her legs and she sat up calling his name "Robert." The phone rang and she went to answer it - it was the hospital calling about his accident. Robert tried to tell her "I have to go" but she couldn't hear him. He went out the front door and returned to his body in the hospital. His wife later confirmed she felt him grab her legs, woke up calling his name, just before the phone rang. He spent 36 hours in trauma hospital, 9 days in ICU (their longest), and 3 months total in hospitals. Since then he feels he has telepathic connections and a sixth sense.
