Richard was on a ship loaded with bombs and napalm canisters near the Mekong River during the Vietnam War when an explosion threw him into a bulkhead. He found himself shooting straight up in the air, watching the ship shrink below him. He floated down onto a beach with a bar, entered it, and found everyone smiling at him with waves of love and peace flowing through everything. The peaceful feeling terrified him and he fled, encountering a tall guard who told him "You're not supposed to be here!" He was directed back toward the ships and then woke up on a mess table, having been clinically dead for 10-15 minutes. After the experience, he felt twenty feet tall, could feel others' thoughts, and had a profound experience during a storm where he felt immortal and wrapped himself in rope screaming "I am Immortal!" to the storm.
