Raymond had been hiking 35 miles in 108-degree heat when his water ran out halfway through. After 10-11 hours without water, he stopped sweating and could barely walk. He collapsed in town and a nurse performed CPR. His heart had stopped and he wasn't breathing for about two minutes after she reached him, plus an unknown time before.
During his clinical death, Raymond experienced his thoughts clearing up while the world became misty and disappeared. His senses merged into a single unified sense - he couldn't see, hear, smell, or touch individually but could "feel" everything. He went to a misty place of incredible beauty, love, peace, and above all, completion that still makes him cry when remembering it. He felt "allowed" to say goodbye to his children and was instantly in a void where he could sense them without seeing or hearing. They understood his love without words. Returning to the mist, he was ready to let go when suddenly he was pulled back with a dropping sensation. The return to his body brought intense pain and suffering. He was ready to move on but was "wrenched out against his will." He fears suicide might lead somewhere worse, so he suffers daily, waiting for natural death to return to that place of completion.
