While scuba diving, Randy ran out of air and stopped breathing for over five minutes. During this time, he experienced a profound near-death encounter. In a very bright light, he saw and spoke with his deceased grandfather who had died some time before. His grandfather held his hand and they walked together through this luminous realm. Eventually, his grandfather let him go, saying he would see Randy again in the future, indicating it wasn't yet Randy's time to die.
Randy came back to consciousness with someone beating on his chest - a person from the dive boat had brought him up from the depths and was performing CPR. The experience was characterized by intense brightness, direct communication with his deceased grandfather, and a clear message about returning to life. The peaceful nature of the experience and the loving presence of his grandfather left a lasting impression. Since the experience, Randy reports significant life changes including divorcing his wife and becoming involved with exotic animals. He also developed an unusual ability and desire to work with large predators and carnivores, something he attributes to his NDE.
