Pete was a passenger in a white Triumph TR-6 that hit a tree on Lee Boulevard in Baton Rouge in August 1976 after a night of celebrating while watching the Montreal Olympic games. He suffered a concussion, broken nose, and broken front teeth, remaining unconscious for approximately thirty minutes before waking in the emergency room while being stitched.
During his unconscious state at the accident scene, Pete found himself hovering above the entire scene, looking down from an elevated position. He observed the car against the tree, the ambulance, and onlookers from the neighborhood and stopped cars [MVP]. He was in no danger or pain, feeling perfectly aware of everything below while in complete tranquility. His soul had left his body and was in a heightened state of consciousness - more alert and aware than possible when merged with body and mind. He experienced no discomfort, judgment, or concerns during the observation. The primary veridical observation was seeing the complete accident scene from above - the car's position against the tree, emergency vehicles, and gathered crowd. This aerial perspective while unconscious provides potential verification through accident reports or witness accounts. Pete woke later in the emergency room with no memory of transport. The experience validated life after death for him, allowing him to be spiritual without organized religion.
