Nine-year-old Brian fell from an eight-foot sliding board during gym class in May 1969, rupturing his spleen and breaking ribs. He was unconscious for 10-15 minutes according to his sister who witnessed the event. During this time, Brian experienced leaving his body and floating upward through clouds into darkness. He encountered a tall shadowy figure in bright light who identified himself as "the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end." Multiple deceased relatives appeared, encouraging him to follow them. The figure showed Brian a life review and future events that would occur in his life. When Brian refused three times, saying he was too young to die and his family would miss him, he was shown more detailed visions of future events before returning to his body. He awakened in the hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries. Brian reports that all predicted future events have come to pass exactly as shown.
