On December 9, 1970, ten-year-old Michael was crossing a street heading home for dinner when he was struck by a Ford LTD driven by an intoxicated driver going 60 mph through a red light. The impact broke half the bones in his body and caused severe internal injuries. His NDE began the moment the car hit him. He immediately went to a completely dark place, darker than any room without windows or light - darker than he could have ever imagined. He briefly came to in the intensive care unit, then experienced leaving his body.
Looking down, he saw hospital staff rushing to work on him. He then left the building and headed up into the sky, looking back at the hospital before heading into an incredibly bright light. The light was as bright as the sun but did not harm his eyes - he could look directly at it. While heading toward the light, he heard a voice tell him it was not his time and he must return to his body. Though he never saw the speaker, he knew with absolute certainty it was Jesus Christ. After this experience nearly forty years ago, Michael became a risk-taker and very outgoing, completely different from his personality before the accident. He later experienced psychic phenomena, including seeing his deceased mother in his parents' house on the day of her funeral. The new owners of the house nine years later had to have it cleansed to remove his mother's spirit. He has no fear of death and joined the Catholic faith. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The bright divine light that doesn't harm the eyes matches descriptions of God's glory. The voice identified as Jesus Christ commanding his return aligns with Christ's authority over life and death. The transformation of personality could reflect spiritual renewal. The complete absence of fear of death reflects biblical promises. Unbiblical elements: The extremely dark place without explanation differs from biblical descriptions of either Sheol or Abraham's bosom. Post-death psychic phenomena and ghost sightings (mother's spirit haunting) directly contradict biblical teaching about the state of the dead and prohibitions against necromancy.
