Michael had IGA Nephropathy (Berger's disease) and became severely ill during a hunting trip in Patagonia. His kidneys failed and his chest filled with 27 pounds of water, leaving his heart with no room to function. Unable to lie down or climb stairs for two days, he finally attempted to lie down on October 22, 2007, immediately losing the ability to breathe.
Without a tunnel or OBE, he was suddenly on a beautiful hillside with a woman he knew but not from earth - someone he felt he had known forever. She was nurturing and made him feel safe, at peace, and oriented. They sat talking in what felt like his true home. At the base of the hill was a small carnival area like a Norman Rockwell painting with infinitely more vivid colors. His deceased sister Allison, who had died in 1992 from a brain aneurysm at age 23, came out to meet him. They talked at length, and she offered him a hot dog, telling him to enjoy it because he wouldn't be having these anymore (later understood as referring to his required low-protein vegetarian diet for kidney disease). When Michael asked to enter the carnival, Allison lovingly explained it wasn't his time and the carnival would always be there for him, but not now. Walking back up the hill, Michael was shown a group of 10-15 people sitting in a circle. When he joined hands with them, he could see through everyone's eyes simultaneously without confusion, experiencing total unconditional love and unity. The woman told him he must return to his family. He resisted but eventually understood and was told to lie in the grass. He awoke on his house floor choking, with his wife standing over him. His blood pressure was 210/190 and he was near heart attack with fluid-filled lungs. The experience left him knowing he "cannot lose, no matter what" and feeling blessed beyond imagination. While hospitalized, he prayed for a nurse to help him travel to a relative in crisis, met nurse Noelle, fell in love instantly, married her, and had a son named Alexander. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The beautiful realm resembles paradise, encounters with deceased loved ones align with the communion of saints, the group unity experience reflects the body of Christ concept, and the command to return for family purposes shows divine providence. The subsequent miraculous meeting and marriage could be seen as God's blessing. Unbiblical elements: The carnival setting is unusual for heaven, the woman guide is unidentified (not clearly an angel), eating food in the afterlife differs from biblical descriptions, and the universalist tone of "cannot lose no matter what" may conflict with biblical judgment concepts.
