Michael was experiencing a heart attack on December 7, 1994, and was taken to Community North Hospital, which was not equipped for heart surgery. While doctors tried to keep him calm during extreme pain from the myocardial infarction, he suddenly felt warmth overcome him and total calmness. He found himself in a white hallway in a fog, moving toward an extremely bright light. As he was about to open a door at the end of the hallway, an alarm brought him back to his pain. His blood pressure had bottomed out and the medical team administered adrenaline.
This pattern repeated about eight times over an eight-hour period - what the nurses called "episodes." Each time he would experience the peaceful white hallway and bright light before being pulled back. A doctor from another hospital happened to walk through, observed the situation, and administered a drug that stabilized Michael until he could be transferred for angioplasty. The experience left him with an unshakeable belief in life everlasting, knowing without doubt that there is life after death.
