Marilena, a Chemistry and Math major, came close to drowning in late April 1967. After going under three times, she suddenly felt great peace and stopped flailing, overwhelmed by peace that blocked out everything else. She descended slowly into a great auditorium with a 180-degree screen divided into many smaller screens. Though she couldn't see anyone in the darkness, she felt she wasn't alone and someone was looking after her. She was shown scenes from her life simultaneously—past, current, and future—finding it beautiful and marvelous. Moving to a light-filled hallway, she saw other people but recognized none. The light was very bright, making it hard to keep her eyes open. Though she doesn't remember hearing voices, she somehow knew it was time to return. She was pulled from the lake onto rocks, dazed and confused, coughing up water. She knew it was real, not a dream, though it contradicted her scientific education. The experience changed her life—she decided to do everything she dreamed of, forget religious beliefs, do good, help others, have no regrets, and be true to herself. She stopped attending Catholic church that summer despite living at home, considering herself spiritual but not religious. She's had multiple psychic experiences since, including knowing houses she'd never seen, seeing connections between all living things as golden light in Denver, and experiencing time shifts to earlier historical periods.
--- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The life review experience partially aligns with biblical concepts of judgment and accountability (2 Corinthians 5:10). The bright light could represent divine presence (1 Timothy 6:16). The peace beyond understanding reflects Philippians 4:7. The presence watching over her suggests divine providence. The transformative effect leading to helping others aligns with biblical values of service. Unbiblical elements: Rejecting religious beliefs contradicts biblical emphasis on faith and church community (Hebrews 10:25). The psychic abilities and seeing golden webs connecting all things suggests new age universal consciousness rather than biblical worldview. Time-shift visions to past eras lack biblical precedent and suggest occult practices.
