Five-year-old Lily was at a creek picnic when she walked alone into deeper water and slipped into a pool over her head. She struggled repeatedly to scream for help while hearing her family talking and laughing nearby, but only got water in her nose. Eventually she found herself on her back underwater, calmly observing the surface from below, noting the small ripples and how smooth the water looked from that angle. She entered a dark tunnel she didn't like and moved very fast toward light at the end, flying headfirst on a current of air. At the tunnel's end, she couldn't see anyone but felt the presence of people who knew her and cared about her - she felt happy, secure, and somehow knew them. The bright light prevented her from walking out of the tunnel. Her aunt rescued her, administered mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and revived her. She experienced a second NDE during childbirth at age 29 with similar elements. Both experiences convinced her that death is not the end and gave her comfort about the afterlife.
--- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The tunnel and light imagery, sensing loving presences at the light, the transformation eliminating fear of death, and the consistency across two separate NDEs suggest authentic spiritual experiences consistent with biblical accounts of the afterlife and God's loving presence. Unbiblical elements: None explicitly identified. The experience of a young child appears to reflect genuine encounter with the afterlife without problematic theological interpretations.
