Leonard was attacked from behind in an attempted homicide and was dead when he hit the ground. Floating ten feet above the street, he watched his still body surrounded by fog. He found himself next to a railroad where a dark steam train passed carrying people who had been mean to him in life. His entire life flashed before him as pictures and sounds. He could have boarded the train but chose to walk into a tunnel following it. His deceased grandmother's voice warned him not to go, saying he wasn't wanted there - he had a wife and family to look after (though he was unmarried with no family at the time). After talking with her, he awoke on the ground. During death, he felt no pain or fear, only curiosity and acceptance, though sadness about leaving his girlfriend. The experience gave him certainty about spiritual survival and revealed that morality, goodness and evil are the core of existence. Different types of beings have different destinations after death. He later experienced prophetic dreams, including detailed visions of 9/11 in 1976.
