Beverly was scuba diving alone in July 1967 when she stumbled underwater and began drowning after being hit by waves and swallowing water. As she was drowning, she experienced memories of another life where she drowned in a hurricane in 1860 as a woman wearing crinolines heading to Jamaica. She left her body and heard a huge rushing sound, realizing she was like a rocket heading home. A voice told her "You are drowning in the wrong life," after which she found herself standing in three feet of water, exhausted but safe. The experience gave her a new outlook on life and opened up past life memories.
--- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The out-of-body experience and the authoritative voice providing guidance could be interpreted as divine intervention. The rocket-like sound and journey toward "home" might represent the soul's journey toward its heavenly home. Unbiblical elements: The experience strongly features reincarnation and past life memories, which directly contradict biblical teaching of one life followed by judgment (Hebrews 9:27). The concept of drowning in the "wrong life" implies multiple incarnations. Beverly describes having "good recall of many past lives going back to when I had my exit from the void," which is incompatible with biblical theology.
