Julia fell onto a playground area and suffered a severe head injury. A witness turned her over, causing her to aspirate blood and cease breathing, resulting in clinical death. During this time, she experienced herself sitting on top of a climbing frame, observing her body on the ground below. Her deceased grandmother, who had died when Julia was less than two years old, was present with her during the out-of-body experience.
From her elevated position, Julia watched her mother crying and being comforted by a neighbor. She felt completely detached emotionally, experiencing no feelings while observing the scene. She was aware of others' emotions, particularly feeling her mother's distress and the emotions of others at the scene through a form of telepathic communication with her grandmother. There was light all around and surrounding her grandmother. Julia saw her body on the ground and her distressed mother with the neighbor. She experienced telepathic awareness of others' emotions at the scene. The presence of her deceased grandmother whom she barely knew was particularly notable. She returned to her body and was unconscious for many days, feeling foggy for weeks afterward. The experience has stayed with her forever, bringing understanding that life happens as it's supposed to and that we are more than our bodies.
