On June 30, 1971, fifteen-year-old Annamarie was struck by lightning while playing in the rain with her family, rendering her lifeless. She experienced a void-like black and white place where she watched a colorful film-strip of her past, specifically times she had hurt others' feelings, including pushing her sister off a tricycle. She felt made aware but not judged. Next, she was in the presence of Jesus (though not visually seeing Him) in a billowy cloud-like void. She felt indescribable love, warmth, acceptance, patience, peace and serenity. All universal knowledge was accessible and communication was clearer than words. Jesus told her very clearly "IT'S ALL ABOUT LOVE" and that suicide was not her choice to make. Time did not exist. She then observed her body from above during CPR, hearing a rescuer say after 6 minutes there might be brain damage if she returned. Given a clear choice to stay or return, she felt her hysterical mother's sorrow and instantly returned to her body. The experience was suppressed for years until Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross's conference unlocked the memories. Annamarie later experienced anger at God for feeling rushed back, spent 20 years away from organized religion, but eventually found peace through daily Bible reading and Christian fellowship.
--- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: Direct encounter with Jesus Christ, receiving the central message that love is paramount (consistent with Christ's greatest commandments), prohibition against suicide reflecting life's sanctity, life review showing moral accountability, and ultimate return to strengthen faith through Bible study and Christian community. Unbiblical elements: None identified. The experience aligns completely with biblical teachings about Christ's love, moral accountability, and the value of human life.
