Joyce took an overdose of medication to end her life and was brought to the ER by ambulance. While unconscious in the emergency room, she felt her soul leave her body. She could hear and see the doctors talking, and heard her mother, John and Dolly (her brother-in-law and sister) in the room. She experienced a state of wonderful peace with a very bright light shaped like the top of a huge ice cream cone ending at a point.
Her soul began moving very quickly through the light toward the end point, where she saw a figure with outstretched arms whom she believed to be God. The lights were incredibly bright, something that would have blinded a normal person, beyond anything one could imagine. She felt incredible peace, joy, and unity with the universe. She didn't want to be resuscitated and thought the medical team was foolish for trying to save her. Suddenly there was total blackness, corresponding to when she was clinically dead. When she woke crying from fear, the doctors apologized for hurting her, not understanding her tears were from fear of the lights and tunnel experience. She couldn't tell them she felt no physical pain but was afraid of what the experience meant, as she wasn't ready for her life to end. Joyce was released from the hospital the next day, against medical expectations. The experience convinced her that heaven is here on earth when we're born, and death is an extremely peaceful transition through bright light.
