In Spring 1973, Joel H experienced a heart attack while asleep in bed. His consciousness was suddenly ripped from his body and hurled through a corridor-like tunnel that he could see through. Outside the tunnel were thousands of planets that he passed at tremendous speed. At the end of the tunnel was a pinpoint of light growing larger and larger. His emotional state was paradoxical - experiencing a very relaxed and loving feeling, feeling like "a Prince coming home," yet simultaneously furious at being there.

When he reached the light, a pleasant and loving voice within it asked him: "Are you ready to come home?" Joel replied emphatically, "No! I want to see my new son grow up." He was immediately slammed back into his body with a sensation like every cell being pushed through a board, though without real pain. He regained awareness on the way to the emergency ward.

Thirty-seven years later, medical personnel consistently identify evidence of a past heart attack on his electrocardiograms, which Joel simply acknowledges without elaborating. The experience included classic NDE elements: sudden separation from body, tunnel with cosmic imagery, approaching light, communication with a loving presence, and forced return to body. The medical evidence of the heart attack provides objective verification of the life-threatening event. Joel's experience of being asked if he was ready to "come home" and his choice to return for his son demonstrates the element of personal agency sometimes reported in NDEs.

--- Biblical Summary ---
Biblical elements: The tunnel leading to light aligns with biblical imagery of passing from death to eternal light. The loving voice asking if he's ready to "come home" resonates with Jesus' promise in John 14:2-3 about preparing a place and coming to receive believers. The concept of life after death and consciousness surviving bodily death aligns with biblical teaching. The ability to communicate with a divine presence and be sent back reflects God's sovereignty over life and death (Deuteronomy 32:39).

Unbiblical elements: None clearly identified. While seeing planets during the tunnel experience is extra-biblical, it doesn't contradict scripture. The element of personal choice in returning might seem to challenge divine sovereignty, but could be understood as God allowing human will within His sovereign plan, similar to prayer affecting outcomes while God remains sovereign.
