At age 5, Jim W experienced a near-drowning incident at a lake while his parents were distracted. Stepping into an underwater hole over 10 feet deep, he struggled to reach the surface but could not. While underwater, he saw a bright round light above the water, about the size of a flashlight, which he did not believe was the sun. He attempted to reach the surface multiple times without success. During this experience, his life flashed before him in rapid succession, though he had only lived for 5 years.
Suddenly, Jim felt as if his body was physically lifted out of the water and found himself standing on solid ground, observing his parents still playing in the water, unaware of his near-drowning. Following this incident, Jim had a remarkable remembrance of being in heaven before birth, where he was offered a selection of time periods to live on Earth. He distinctly recalls choosing to be born after World War II, believing it would be a great time to live.
