Jill C experienced clinical death from kidney failure in February 2003. After struggling to breathe in an ambulance and knowing she was dying, she expected blackness but instead found herself in a place of incredible light unlike earthly light. Wonderful patterns and golden lights enveloped her while she simultaneously experienced the most incredible knowledge of unconditional and benevolent love. The experience was brief but profound - she stopped breathing for only thirty seconds but felt she was "gone" much longer. After the golden light and love experience, everything went black until she awoke in hospital after two days on a ventilator. The light was intense, golden, patterned or scintillating, clearly of mystical origin. She felt incredible awe and gratitude at being loved so universally and unconditionally, experiencing such profound benevolence. The experience resonated with George Herbert's poem about divine love. She felt united with the world and understood everything about the universe during the encounter. Since the experience, she takes her meditation and spiritual practice more seriously, has confidence that death is not the end, and tries to be more loving. She believes this universal love is given constantly to all humanity, though beyond our ability to fully comprehend.

--- Biblical Summary ---

Biblical elements: The experience powerfully demonstrates divine love's reality with unconditional, universal benevolence consistent with God's nature in Scripture. The golden light clearly represents divine presence. The knowledge that this love is constantly given to all reflects God's omnipresent care. The transformation toward greater love and spiritual practice shows authentic spiritual fruit. The understanding that death is not the end aligns with Christian hope of eternal life.

Unbiblical elements: None explicitly identified. While lacking specific Christian imagery like Jesus or angels, the experience of pure divine love remains fully compatible with biblical theology.
