Jeri S experienced an NDE in January 1991 during a high-risk pregnancy while being monitored in the hospital's labor and delivery department. Her blood pressure suddenly dropped, causing severe nausea and loss of consciousness. From an elevated position above the scene, she observed the medical team working on her body - nurses taking vital signs, one yelling for help, another slapping her arm trying to administer an injection while calling her name. She saw doctors rushing in with masks and working frantically, raising her legs high and examining her. A bright light appeared ahead/above her (distinct from the room lights). She heard the doctor saying the baby was in danger and asking about saving mother or baby. From her out-of-body perspective, she felt no fear, only calm, thinking "THE BABY, I'm right here, I don't need to be saved." She noted specific details like her pale appearance, the doctor's hand on her belly during internal exam, and the clock position. She experienced incredible peace, relief, and joy during the event. Her thoughts were accelerated and she had a sense of special knowledge and understanding. After returning to her body, her son was born healthy despite predictions of complications. The experience has provided lasting meaning about the reality of consciousness beyond the body.
