On July 3, 1984, Jean experienced severe postpartum hemorrhage with declining blood pressure while awaiting emergency surgery. As she was wheeled to the operating theatre, she left her body and began floating. The ceiling disappeared and she observed herself from great height being wheeled down an endless corridor. She felt extremely calm and found the experience wonderful and life-changing. She returned to her body when the anesthetist began the injection. The floating experience was magical with incredibly vivid senses and very slow time perception. The memory remains crystal clear after many years. The experience initiated a lasting spiritual search and increased tolerance. Her father had a similar experience, creating a wonderful bond between them. She has never doubted its reality and would welcome another out-of-body experience.
--- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The out-of-body experience with maintained consciousness during medical crisis supports biblical teaching about the soul existing independently of the body. The overwhelming peace and wonder could reflect divine presence. The lasting spiritual transformation and search for meaning aligns with biblical spiritual awakening. Unbiblical elements: None specifically identified, though the experience lacks explicit Christian content. The desire for repeated OBEs could potentially lead to occult practices if pursued through non-biblical means.
