Gregg experienced three separate near-death events over 16 years. The first occurred in 1964 during a dental procedure when he suffered a severe Novocain overdose. After six hours of difficult tooth extraction, he experienced breathing difficulty, convulsions, and loss of consciousness. From an elevated position atop lockers, he observed his body in fetal position while medical technicians attempted to help him. He watched with amusement as his unconscious body's arms unfolded, causing the technicians to collide. He accompanied his body in the ambulance and later awoke with a sheet over his face, startling a young man nearby. The second incident in 1974 involved a construction crane malfunction causing a fall. The third in 1980 resulted from medical error during emergency treatment when stomach pumping tubes were inserted into his lungs, causing cardiopulmonary failure. All three experiences shared the same characteristics: out-of-body observation with full consciousness, maintaining his complete sense of self and memories, experiencing everything as humorous, and existing in an alternate reality with all senses intact. These experiences convinced him there is more than earthly life.
