Gail experienced an NDE in August 1976 during surgery for a ruptured tumor when her heart stopped. During the surgery, she awakened and found herself floating near the ceiling of the operating room. She was pleased with her youthful appearance as she observed herself. She cautiously entered a tunnel near the ceiling's side, keeping one foot outside as she only wanted to look in. Looking up the tunnel, she saw a soft light at the end that moved back and forth with electrical currents running through it, appearing somewhat milky as if containing forms of life. Something communicated with her, asking if she was ready to come all the way in. She declined, expressing her desire to return and raise her two sons until they no longer needed her, and to become a better person. She made a promise to be a good mother. The light assured her she was loved and sent her back to fulfill her purpose. Upon awakening after surgery, the experience was immediately present in her memory. She spent months searching for answers, discussing with professors, writing to Dr. Raymond Moody, and talking with others who shared similar experiences. The experience brought calm, peace, love, and realization of what's important. She can now "read" people and sense negativity, sometimes becoming ill around difficult people.
